Fundraiser/Grant Writer:
The successful candidate will be able to clearly articulate the mission of The Mars Foundation™ and then raise money from private individuals, foundations, and government resources to support the pursuit and development of that mission. Candidates must have the skills and personal qualities necessary to develop a broad consensus of support for the mission and various Foundation initiatives. Candidates should have experience with and be able to speak effectively on behalf of The Mars Foundation™ in public, and in print and broadcast media.
Candidates should have background in and a passion for science, and the desire and ability to inspire others with that passion. The job requires the capacity to work at the intersection of innovative program development and best business practices, of consensus-oriented management and effective decision-making, of strategic vision and practical implementation.
The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and dynamic innovator who can communicate the importance of the mission and the goals of the organization. The successful candidate will be a proven leader and an effective manager who can work successfully in a dynamic, fast-paced environment characterized by growth and change, and will have exceptional organizational and administrative skills, including the ability to plan, set goals and objectives, organize, and follow through. Knowledge of government and non-profit fiscal management is also required. The successful candidate must be a model of integrity and fairness and have high ethical standards.

Description: Biospherics is the study of artificial biospheres or ecosystems in space settlements, and Earth's biosphere.
Duties may include (depending on your interest and experience):
- Cataloging past papers on biospherics & closed life support as related to Mars settlements, space settlements in general, artificial ecosystems, ecology; and making these papers available on the web.
- Editing presentations, papers, newsletters.
- Assisting with grant proposals.
- Coordinating online conferences of researchers.
- Work with teams designing settlements for Mars.
- Identify related research projects worldwide.
Experience desirable:
Knowledge of ecology, biology, computer literacy, web and e-mail; college degree or student in biology, science, or management. Keen interest in helping expand civilization beyond Earth.
Requirements:
Excellent opportunity for a student or semi-retired volunteer interested in ecology, space exploration & settlement, closed-ecosystems, biology, or specifically Mars. Preferably located in the area of Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, but could be done via Internet.

Internship:

Description: Help publicize our Mars Base design and other projects; on websites, printed materials, graphics, and possibly models.
Duties may include (depending on your interest and experience):
- Write articles & descriptions about the Mars base and its construction, purpose, etc.
- Provide written materials for sponsors, assist with fundraising.
- Edit written material from volunteer team members.
- Graphic layout.
- Artwork, sketches (optional).
- Create 3D CAD models (optional).
- Create 3D physical models (optional).
- Where needed, interview team members via phone and write for them.
- Expand PowerPoint presentations into written papers.
- Edit newsletters and e-mail announcements.
Requirements:
Useful knowledge and/or experience: research techniques, technical writing skills; engineering (civil, mechanical, chemical), biological processes, agricultural; architectural drawing, artistical drawing.
Must have a passion for new frontiers, new worlds, space, and extending civilization beyond Earth, and be able to articulate that passion in your written materials and/or drawings.
Additional Information:
Flexible schedule, may work at home via Internet, may include some evening and/or weekend teleconferences.
Must be organized and able to work independently and as a member of a team, as circumstances require.

Engineering - All Disciplines, design in one engineering aspect of a permanent base on Mars: including (not limited to): mechanical, chemical engineering, structural, manufacturability, soil mechanics, safety, logistics, electrical, nuclear, solar power, energy storage, aerospace, or architectural design.
Engineering / Design Team Manager, or assistant to the team leader. Assist & coordinate a team of engineers on the next phase of designing a permanent base on Mars. Depending on your experience, you may be the senior designer, or assist a volunteer senior engineer.
Biospherics Editor. Excellent opportunity for a student interested in ecology, space exploration & settlement, closed-ecosystems, biology, or specifically Mars. Knowledge of ecology, biology desired; successful candidate likely a graduate or undergraduate student in biology, science, or management.
Editor / Graphic Artist / CAD / Artist - help publicize the Mars Base design and other projects; on websites, printed materials, graphics, and physical models.
Webmaster/ Internet Support - Help maintain & expand the website and provide other Internet support.
Children's Activity Designer - Design fun and educational activities for children, ages 6 to 15. Each activity related to living or working or building on Mars or in space.
